Peace and Quiet in Madrid



Jardines de Sabatini
Just north of the Palacio Real you'll find the Jardines de Sabatini ... formal gardens that were originally laid out in 1930. These gardens are not too crowded, so they are more or less guaranteed some peace, quiet, but be aware that this is also a popular place for mothers and young children after school.

Real Jardin Botanico
If you've spent some time at the Prado Museum, this is a great place to relax and rest your legs, because virtually the [entrance at Plaza de Murillo]. You'll find lots of flowers and shrubs around the garden, but do not expect any coffee and refreshments for sale.

Casa de Campo
It is a large park is located west of Madrid on the opposite side of the Rio Manzanares. You'll find restaurants, bars, tennis courts, swimming pools, lakes, zoo and the Parque de Atracciones [amusement park] here. Casa de Campo is a former hunting ground, but is now a place for picnics, lazing around, kicking football around or even walk through the scrubland. During the Civil War, Franco's troops were based here and some signs of trenches can still be round.

Campo del Moro
Just below the Palacio Real is the Campo del Moro, which is more like a formal forest of the park. There are avenues to walk and attractive fountains [Las Conchas, and Los Tritones]. Parque del Oeste
This park is set in the hillside on the northwest Palacio Real.
