Where is Your Retirement Haven?

The concept of the house takes on a whole new meaning to retirement. In fact, the home is considered one of the fundamental elements, along with health and finances.

Now, the primary question is what we want in our new home? Not only at home, but what factors determine the community and the surrounding area? These are all questions to consider.

My husband and I decided a few years ago we wanted to leave our home of twenty-five years. Our family is scattered across the country, so do not use them as a factor. With the exception of my mother, who was nearly eighty five and lives alone in central Texas.

As we have seen in various communities, it becomes clear that what we want in the new community is paramount. For us, who live within an hour of the international airport is important. I figure as we near the airport, we are close friends and family.

My husband is a pilot and his first retirement project is to build a small plane. So, wants to be near a small municipal airport.

Having lived in Southern California in the last twenty five years, the climate is a factor. In fact, it is the second most important factor in considering a nursing home. We do not want to live in an area where we should shovel snow. I'm not crazy about the summer was 100 +.

Are you thinking about retiring in the new space? What are the factors you think are important? There are a number of considerations to think about what you think to move to a new nursing home.

What size community do not want to live? Population and number of people in the community is a factor for many.

What other elements of the community are important to you? Is outdoor recreation key factor? How important are cultural activities? Would you like to live in a place of historical importance?

the cost of living is an important factor for many new retirees. Included in the cost of living is housing, health care, taxes and transportation.

As we get older, personal safety is becoming more of a problem. What services do you want your new community to offer? Examples may include medical, library, and continuing education.

The new retirement for many will work. It can be full or part time, and running a business. What are the options in your retirement community?

What personal factors to consider? I am an artist, so it's important to live in a community with a robust group of artists. For some people, this may mean a strong spiritual community. Are there any other personal interests you want in your new home?

Moving to a new area is an exciting proposal for my husband and me. It's also a little scary. We do not want to move to a place that we enjoy. We plan to stay in a new community for a number of months before they actually dedication.

Or maybe I'll just stay put.
